Maggie acquired this smile at the same exact time she went from baby food to real food. Coincidence? I think not!
Got smoothies?
Or yogurt milk as the kids called it. During my girlfriend Laurie's (the chef) visit (more on that in another post) she made the kids peach smoothies one morning. They were a huge hit as you can see.

What were you doing 10 years ago? Summer 1998...I had just moved to Pensacola to attend the Brownsville Revival School of Ministry. It was my first time away from home, my first apartment, lots of first & unknowns. I was a waitress at Semolina's, the best pasta restaurant in my opinion. I guess it wasn't that good though, all the chains that I know of have closed.
Things on my To-Do List today: Clean the house, plan vacation, finish laundry, work on master list of every organized item in the house, re-organize closets, order Christmas & birthday presents, purchase items for Charlie's first care package, and on and on and on. I'm pretty sure I won't get that all done today!
What are some snacks you enjoy? Chocolate!!
What would you do if you were a millionaire? Set aside for the kids college, weddings & first homes. Set Charlie up with whatever business endeavor he could dream of doing when he gets out. Publish the book I've not written. Ensure family is taken care of.
Name some of the places you've called home. Inverness, FL* Hallendale, FL* Pensacola, FL* Cookeville, TN* Dumfries, VA,* Milton, FL * Oceanside, CA * and here. Some day...Heaven.
What are some of your bad habits? (Kelli, sorry to copy but these are actually things I was going to list too. Charlie can't stand that I only take the trash part way!) I toss the trash bags into the garage instead of taking them all the way out to the garbage can. I do the laundry and then let it sit around for days before I put it away. I'm going to stop there.
What are some jobs you've held? Daycare worker, administrative assistant, office manager, social worker, waitress, student & now ... mom, nurse, cook, housekeeper, teacher, referee, chauffeur...

Chats with dad
It may seem like alot of what I've mentioned lately has to do with Charlie's coming & going. Lets face it though, it's a huge part of our life. The kids think that everyone's daddy is always gone, which in some ways is easier. They enjoy chatting with daddy & treasure his phone calls. They tell him about their day, what they are doing/watching/eating, or since Maggie can't talk they fill him in on what she might be doing/watching/eating. He's gone again now, currently on ship, sailing around somewhere in an undisclosed location. They currently are on training missions which Charlie likens to a final exam. We are doing good about finding plenty to fill our time with. I've been so busy this DET that I feel as if my head is spinning. (I'll post more on that later. Unfortunatley I don't have any actual head-spinning pictures, but I promise it is!). Some people may think it's not right for a household to revolve around a person who is hardly, bordering on never, here but to us it's right. He may not be here in person but he still remains in the God given position as the head of this household. We're just learning how to make the transition of a revolving front door easier.

Even when Charlie is home he is often working late, right up until the kids bedtime or after. So nights like these are priceless, treasured & photo worthy.
I'm just not sure who is having more fun Charlie or the kids.A perpetual state
Charlie is gone most of the time these days. When he's not gone, he's packing to leave again. This is what our room looks like a lot these days. Seeing these bags is bittersweet. We celebrate that he's home & pray that his little bit of time home will seem more than just a little bit.
A Cheerio kind of morning
One morning as Nathan slept in & I prepared breakfast this was the delightful scene I watched unfold before my eyes. The girls quietly shared their Cheerios & giggled at the fun of it all.
Fourth of July Fun!
So I'm a little late in posting this. Okay, a lot late. I've not even sent out Father's Day cards yet, so what does that tell you?!
Charlie's brother David & his family made the long trip from Tennessee for their first visit to our neck of the woods. Marcia & I had a girls day out with Emma which included pedicures, lunch & accessory shopping at Claires, the boys went skeet shooting & kayaking on the beach, we celebrated Charlie's birthday & still managed to find some time to watch the fireworks.

Emma became convinced her glowstick was a "bibbidy bobbity boo" wand that would cause the fireworks to go off. She & Nathan spent almost the entire duration dancing around us "helping" with the firework display.

A step back in time
As I mentioned in previous post Charlie had more Det's than I had projects. Or so I thought. On his last Det inspiration struck. Charlie has had his mothers toys in a box in our garage for years. So for quite a while now I've been trying to figure out how to display Donna's amazing antique toys. Shadow boxes, shelves, crates, nothing seemed to fit the bill & then it hit me, what could say"antique" more than wooden spoons. I dug out my kitchen spoons, added some gingham ribbon & raffia & hoped to bring Charlie a smile with my handiwork. It seemed fitting to display the toys above Emma's kitchen in the breakfast nook, which seems to delight her. Nathan was suprisingly a bit aprehensive about the display, all he could say for the first few minutes were "Emma look, there are spankers on the wall." Once he realized though that the spoons were not for correction but rather decoration he was quite excited to see grandma's toys on the wall. Most importantly Charlie loved the tribute to his mom & of course how little I spent to create it!
